.wav to .mp3

Is there a program that will convert a .wav file to .mp3. I want to use lame as the encoder but I don't want to do it one file at a time at the command line.

certainly, XMMS will do that, just change the plug in, in the OUTPUT section, and select the quality and select the folder you want it to appear at, , have fun!!

I've always used lame from the command line for this but I just installed audacity and I'm very impressed. You can use it to export .wavs to mp3 and ogg and it's also a good editor. I had to get past some dependencies to get audacity installed, but I found what I needed easily at rpmfind.net.

grip is a nice frontend for these tools - it basically does cdda -> wav -> mp3 in one go. It has a disco neon logo too.

there's quite a few tools out there - both graphical and commandline - www.freshmeat.org is always a great place to do a search.

if you use XMMS to listen to your music, why not just use the same thing to decode and encode files???

I didn't know XMMS could encode, I'll give it a try. I like GRIP but it won't import .wav files that I already have. But first a search thru freshmeat, thx guys.
