Unhappy watching mms:// live streaming

Hi

I am trying to watch live internet TV at the link:
Code:
mms://berkano.tvr.ro/tvrlive
It works in Windows, however I don't know how to make it work on my Mandriva LE 2005. I have mplayer and realplayer(and they work fine). I tried to run for instance

Code:
mplayer mms://berkano.tvr.ro/tvrlive
Unfortunately I get
Playing mms://berkano.tvr.ro/tvrlive.
Resolving berkano.tvr.ro for AF_INET6...
Couldn't resolve name for AF_INET6: berkano.tvr.ro
Resolving berkano.tvr.ro for AF_INET...
Connecting to server berkano.tvr.ro[212.54.100.26]:1755 ...
Connection timeout

asf_streaming_start failed
Check if this is a playlist which requires -playlist option
Example: mplayer -playlist <url>
Unable to open URL: mms://berkano.tvr.ro/tvrlive

Please help me with suggestions and ideas. Thank you.

wich distribution?

Anyway, it seems your mplayer hasn't been build with network support, cous it can't connect to anything (or your FW is blocking it). Another thing, for windows media file type, you need w32codec pack installed ontop of mplayer.

Hello teebones

I have the 64 bit Mandriva LE. However the mplayer is 32 bit since the 64 bit was not working properly with wmv formats for instance. I am able to play with mplayer videos from yahoo launch and live bbc broadcast for instance and with realplayer I am able to watch nasa tv for example. The codec you mention is installed I guess. I am not sure what FW means, but I don't think anything is blocking my player.

I have been trying for many months to play this link in linux.

My hope is that I only need to specify some options when running mplayer with that link(for instance I need the option -playlist in order to be able to watch bbc)

Thank you .

I couldn't play it either. Post the page that you got the link off of.
Lets look at the page source.

Hi teckk

The page is:

http://www.tvr.ro/webcast/

It's in romanian. The link is where you see the windows media player logo.

Dear heema

this extension simply launches gmplayer mms:// berkano... , so it's unfortunately not able to play the link. But thank's, it makes playing certain files easier.

Kplayer does the same thing on my system it keeps timing out on the OP link. RealPlayer says it can't play it because it is missing "mms."

I looked at it. That page is written for Windows Media Player only. I haven't been able to find a way to play it in Linux yet. I drop sites like that a line telling them to use open standards or I will not be viewing or supporting them. Just one person, but if enough of us complain they have got to get the message. I tried it with XP and WMP and it plays fine.
