Question Watching how much memory is being used?

I was wondering if there was a way in Redhat Linux 8.2 to watch how much memory is being used by each process?

Note that top will give you wildly misleading figures. It's actually not as simple as you might think.

If you mean "per process" stats, have a look at software.senko.net, look for "procstat", or just "string /proc/<PID>/status". If you want overview stats, look at Freshmeat for "atsar".
Mhearn, you mean shared memory issues?

Hi, I was wondering if there was a way to see how much memory a process has used during its existence.

An example, I run a make file, and when it is finished, I would like to know the specifics of what that file required from my computer and memory. Any way of knowing this??

An article: Tips for Optimizing Linux Memory

There is also a memory monitor in gkrellm, but I don't know if it will give what you want.
