Question want to start own website on linux server

Hi AlL,
I am a user of redhat linux,I want to start my own website on linux so i have some Ques,Please suggest me the best way

1.i want to host my website on my own webserver so what are the prerequisites to start a web server.
e.g-dns server,proxy server,mail server.
2-As i have to take a domain for my website so what will be the need fo my own dns server.
3-I also want to integrate my webserver to mailserver, how can i achieve this .
4-i am building website in php, so is it fully compatible with linux.
5-For websites i also need to take webspace from a webhost, so can i host my website on my own server besides loading my pages on webhost.

Please suggest me the best way

if u have something to share with me please share on my e-mail

1. a web server, presumably apache but plenty of others also exist.
2. no need. use an external dns host for your own proper domain. or just a free dynamic dns provider like dyndns.org or noip.com
3. what does "integrate" mean? You don't need to do anything special for a web app to send email.
4. that's not a question.
5. Huh? you want to host yourself but also on a web hosting company? That makes little sense - why bother hosting anything locally at all?

TBH. it's often better and cheaper to use a hosting company. in terms of hardware and power consumption, just a simple subscription to somewhere like dreamhost leaves you much better off.

Hi acid_kewpie

Thanks for quick & clear reply.
Actually i want to start my own website and mailservice (e.g yahoomail, gmail).
I am in initial stage tht's why m collecting info of all needed resources.
For a website will the hosting company provide us whole space to store all data.
Or is this possible that i buy only a domain and use my own webserver?

to run a mailserver, you need a fixed ip.
Dynamic ip's are often refused by SMTP servers.

There are several mailservers in linux
sendmail, exim, postfix ....

But again, you need a fixed IP in order to do this, and some bandwith in order to host all these things.
Also don't forget the costs if you run a server at home 24/7 (electricity, ...)

Well depending on what kind of "mail server" you want I wouldn't say a static address is needed at all. *MOST* ISP's will have a relay for their customers to use to send -outbound- mail. inbound email is less of an issue if your isp permits it, a dynamic dns service will probably be fine there.
