Want to reinstall lilo

I have both xp and mandrake installed , I had to reinstall xp and it overwrote the boot record so now I can’t boot into Linux

The problem is that my Mandrake CD has got corrupt and I am not able to go into rescue node and reinstall lilo from the CD

Is there any other way I can recover the installed mandrake ?

I'm not sure if this will work but if you have a live distro like knoppix you could try booting to it and then editing fstab so you can execute liloconfig.

From the Mandrake Installation Instructions:
If you need to rescue your existing Mandrake Linux system, insert your
Installation CDROM (or any relevant boot floppy), press [F1] at
Mandrake Linux welcome screen, then type rescue at the prompt.

Maybe with one of these images ?

Some rescue systems let you enter the partition to boot and others make you mount and chroot to make changes.

Good Luck.

I don't have a live distro and as I told earlier my mandrake CDROM has gone corrupt :(

otherwise I would have used the rescue command which I had been using previously in such situation to reinstall lilo

is there any other way?
Thanks

Though my link to Mandrake 10 at Ibiblio seems to be busy right now, I was suggesting that the Mandrake documentation suggests one of the Mandrake 10 image files may be used to run the rescue system.

Since the day I got a usb flah drive I hav never had a floppy

Maybe this Mandrake Mirror will work for a while.
There is an 8MB boot.iso which might work.
Do not copy the image to a CD, burn it as an image or ISO file.

Hmmm, well, there does appear to be no way to actually get a rescue system going from those images.
They all say to type "rescue at the prompt" (after F1) but then go round and round wanting to install Mandrake.
And apparently more is needed than copying the stage 2 rescue file to the CD (even with the directory structure) with a floppy image boot.
This should teach me not to give distro specific advice for a distro I am not using.
Sorry.

Download (about 45MB):
/images/cdrom.img
/Mandrake/base/rescue_stage2.bz2
/Mandrake/mdkinst/*
(everything in mdkinst)

Burn a bootable CD using cdrom.img as the bootable image.
Include the /Mandrake files preserving directories.

Boot from the CD to find a working Mandrake rescue system with choices to restore your bootloader, mount your filesystems, or start the command line.
