hey trickykid! could u add Opera to the list please?

(wonders if trickykid would notice...)

Aussie 12-19-2001 08:52 AM

heh,heh by the time opera gets added to the poll konq should be in the lead :D

trickykid 12-19-2001 01:24 PM

sorry about that.. would have gotten to it earlier, but i drank a little too much last night, just now waking up out of my coma..
but OPERA has been added. :D

gui10 12-19-2001 01:33 PM

thanks... anyway, konq has pulled into the lead... lol

Not any more...

 Galeon

taz.devil 12-19-2001 05:11 PM

Unfortunately, I cannot access the internet through Linux as my ISP is coughAOLcough...So I am an I.E. user. If though when I did have access to www in Linux, twas by far happiest with Galeon...

gui10 12-19-2001 09:46 PM

tazzy... hey no worries... it's about choosing your favorite web browser... not the one you're forced to use... :) (just like how most of us have to dual boot coz we want games! doesn't make Windybozo our favorite operating system :) )

interesting... i suppose these numbers are quite local to this forum... but here's my 2 cents on what's going on so far...

i believe gnome vs kde users would more or less represent the galeon/konquerer divide...

and i'm guessing the rest are either using other windows managers or not too comfy with a non desktop-independent browser.

and whoooo! i never knew lynx could be anyone's fav browser... i use it only when i have not much choice... lol... who voted lynx? ;)

Aussie 12-19-2001 10:00 PM

Don't anybody knock the Lynx! It's saved my bacon a few times :)
I do think it need a new name though,
it should be called...."ohnoI'vef******myXserverthankgodfortheLYNX"

gui10 12-19-2001 10:12 PM

i heartily agree!
it saved my bacon when i made the transition from redhat to slack... hoho.... i wouldn't have been able to come to this forum for help if not it...

isajera 12-19-2001 11:08 PM

...one more vote for opera.

gui10 12-20-2001 03:54 AM

hm... according to this small poll, looks like netscape ranks right abreast lynx... hohoho!

mozilla has pulled into the lead at this point... 7 votes!... lol
apparently, galeon uses mozilla's rendering engine... but i just can't resist the little foot on my desktop panel... lol
plus i think the performance is better on galeon...

hm... haven't used opera though... ought to try it soon...

finegan 12-20-2001 08:29 AM

lol... who voted lynx?
Well, opera wasn't up yet... and I had to vote... I use it a lot at work to read the forum when snoopy twerps from work are leaning over my shoulder that animated gif of the arm bashing the laptop over there on the left looks rather conspicuous.

Cheers,

Finegan

The alledged "santa" lives in the Arctic and penguins live in the Antartic...poles apart so to speak...:p

gui10 12-20-2001 11:32 PM

ah pardon my Klatchian!

i thought this santa guy originated from the netherlands?

in any case, it's still geographically inaccurate for me to have said anything about penguins...

oh well, it's back to the dinghy life... :p

anoop_chandran 12-20-2001 11:47 PM

vote for NETSCAPE !

ajtaus 12-21-2001 07:28 AM

Vote for opera :)

Stephanie 12-21-2001 11:13 AM

Hey,

Just thought I would put my vote in... Opera just kicks butt!

Yay...go konq :D

bluecadet 12-21-2001 01:21 PM

again.. shadowhacker likes opera. told you it was for girls! bet trickykid voted for it too...

but quite who would vote for netscape is a mystery for me. certainly mozilla instead of that, and then galeon over mozilla...

coincidentally... are there any gecko based browsers on kde yet?

personally, i prefer read html streams manually....

Stephanie 12-21-2001 05:47 PM

OK bluecadet,

Opera is great web browser! It has never crashed on me, is available for almost every operating system I run, clean and effecient, it provides stats on your performance, and it is extremely fast at booting up and rendering.

Why do you say it is a girls web browser?

taz.devil 12-21-2001 07:41 PM

Opera for girls? Wouldn't know, haven't ever used it but hear it's great! I may have to d/l it and see what she's all about. Netscape is so resource hungry it'll eat the whole machine and Mozilla is the same thing, although back in '92-'93 netscape was actually created on the mozilla engine. I.E. nothing to say here, i use it, could be better. konquerer is fairly nice as is Galeon. But that's just the interface and where most of the bloat or lack thereof comes from. Everyone has a preference, what constitutes girlishness of a browser really?

I telnet to port 80!

I like it when my friends get in the vi/Emacs war and I start yelling Ed forever.

God that was geeky. Okay, I might have missed it, but me and the guy sitting next to me voted for Lynx... so who was the 3rd?

Cheers,

Finegan

bluecadet 12-22-2001 10:01 AM

well, i don't like opera and both the renowned ladies voted for it... seemed like a good enough put down to me! :D

I tried opera on windows and linux and yeah it was stable, but i don't think it supported java when i tried it, and it just seemed so utterebly drab interface wise. not sure why really. i didn't like the tabs, but now i think they're one of galeons strong points...

Code:

  ____      _
 / ___| __ _| | ___  ___  _ __
| |  _ / _` | |/ _ \/ _ \| '_ \
| |_| | (_| | |  __/ (_) | | | |
 \____|\__,_|_|\___|\___/|_| |_|

Aussie 12-22-2001 11:20 AM

I quite liked opera the one time I tried it......but there was no way that I was going to pay $80 to get rid of the adds.....I hate adds......did I mentioned that I hate adds?

bluecadet 12-22-2001 11:57 AM

and when people spell 'ads' wrong and keep typing it... ;-)

yeah the commercial side of it is a bugger, but isn't the linux one ad-free from the start? i thought it was. can't remember now

well first off, i don't use opera, so i can say i never voted for it... second, can't really say its a girl browser just because 2 girlies voted for it.. and it is ahead, so clearly guys are using it too.

And I spell colour with a "u".

huh? why wouldn't you? only a total twonk would spell it without a 'u'.

that's one of my biggest grudges against programming GUI's and so forth... i have to spell colour wrong in order to make the thing work... i could write a wrapper for it but somehow.... no.

FuriousGnu 12-24-2001 12:36 AM

I voted for Netscape. I've always seemed to
flip-flop between IE and Netscape in the
past. Since installing Linux, however, I've
gotten very fond of NS 6.2. I tried Opera 5
yesterday too -- it seems pretty neat.

What exactly is a 'twonk'? And are there degrees of twonk? For example your 'total twonk' as opposed to other twonks? Like a half twonk, or even a quarter twonk if only your grandfather was a twonk? Am I actually BEING a twonk right now? I know I can be a complete yahoo fairly easily.:D

so... according to the gospel of bluecadet, all americans are twonks?

Stephanie 12-26-2001 12:32 PM

Thanks Tricky for sticking up for us :p

I love Opera over the others I have heard here. I am a speed demon, and Opera is the only one that seems to be able to keep up.

And Blue, Opera now supports Java.

And BTW- spelling color as colour is actually the correct way of spelling it. There are two forms of English.. the English way, and the American way.

Unfortunately, many Americans think that everything should revolve around them, so they like to change things. However, if you ever studied the English language, you would find that we spell many things incorrectly even by our own standards. But unless you want to start a war, or at the very least get in trouble for correcting a teachers (cough, cough),dont ever try to point that out :)

crash89 01-02-2002 11:21 AM

OPERA!!! It handles the Netscape plugins that Netscape themselves couldn't handle. Fast and stable. Not only is it multi-platform, it is multi-gender! :-)

membrax 05-01-2003 12:05 PM

Edited due to multiple posting of same post.

rmartine 05-01-2003 12:50 PM

OK people....

Where is Dillo?? 0.7.2 is out and beats the snot out of Galeon as far as speed. Granted don't ask it to do anything complicated yet... but soon.... very soon.... you will all feel Dillo's power...
