Question vmware question

i have just go vmware working on slack and i want to know whats the best idea, i have a dual boot system at the moment (slack8.1 and winxp)

considering i have vmware working now, i dont have a need for dual boot anymore! so here is my question:

because vmware gives me the choice to either have a virtual system created or i can use an existing system (ie: my winxp system already installed).

whats the best idea? use the existing one or create a new one?

i have a partition on my hard drive (10gb) with winxp on it, should i remove that and make it a new ext3 partition and ge vmware to install a new virtual system there?

i know with some kernels there is a restriction on the size vmware will use? (2.something gb)

in conclusion: i have 10gb there waiting for the best option, what do you guys suggest?

cheers

would it be a good idea to set up vmware's virtual workstation on its own ext3 partition? (a huge 10gb)

also what os do you suggest i use as my virtual workstation?, i want to run a few games, but more importantly 3d studio max, photoshop, kazzalite, but yeah some games too :P

what does vmware work best with? should i have almost every windoze os which is the best choice? 98 2000 xp?

(my version of vmware supports xp)

I use VMWare at my office to manage our Active Directory and other Windows-specific functions in Windows XP. PhotoShop and other 2-D applications will run "all right", but, as keevitaja said, DirectX, OpenGL, and other 3-D functions die a slow, painful death in VMWare. I attempted to run Asheron's Call in it and it just couldn't render it fast enough. If you're going to be doing any Windows gaming, I'd recommend sticking with a Windows partition and dual booting. If you just need Windows business apps, then VMWare is a good solution (or using Wine/Codeweavers and running it natively in Linux).

Good luck!
