vmware and other modules compiled based on current kernel

i installed Vmware on my "Linux vakhos 2.6.18-4-xen-vserver-amd64 #1 SMP Mon Mar 26 12:49:59 CEST 2007 x86_64 GNU/Linux" Debian system. The perl script compiled some vmware modules for me based on the running kernel. What happens if i later update my kernel? Will these modules need to be recompiled? This could also be a more general question -not just for vmware...

I had a kernel change while running VirtualBox with a Windows XP guest and openSUSE 10.2 host. It required recompiling and reinstalling the VirtualBox application. It was a short process (a couple minutes) and the "new" setup ran exactly the same as the earlier one. (In other words, I did not lose anything, notice any settings changing, or have to reinstall anything else.) I suspect the situation should be similar with VMware products.

Yes, you will have to recompile the modules. It's only a matter of running the script

as root. However, if your kernel is very new, you may need to also apply the any-any patch first.
