Vmware and its virtual harddisk!
Hey guys, I have a question...
I have Vmware 4.5, and I use it to mess around in Linux from within Windows.
Anyway, I've always had a problem with distros in that I usually can't partition the virtual hdd that Vm gives me.
For instance,
Today I'm trying to install VecotrLinux 5.0.1 SOHO. Now for some reason, the built in tools fdisk or cfdisk won't detect the virtual hard drive space. However, Qtparted does and I'm able to format it with that. problem is not all distros have it preinstalled (like Knoppix, which I've successfully formatted with qtparted, and then use the knoppix install). So for text based ones I cant seem to get it to work. And then theres another problem. Like I got the SystemRescue CD which comes with qtparted, I partition the hard disk properly but for some reason, anytime I mess with the virtual hard drive (such as my virtual Ubuntu. Ubuntu worked fine and all) any time I change the virtual cdrom drive to some LiveCD's ISO, it wont work. So what that means is even if I sucessfully partition the disk in Knoppix or something with Qtparted, once I reboot the system with a different ISO in the virtual CDrom, it wont boot it. It'll just hang with a black screen and the flashing underscore...
Anyone else have this problem? How can I use cfdisk or fdisk properly?
