Select the "Tools" menu then "Preferences".
Select "All" at the bottom left of the Preferences window under "Show Settings".
Select Playlist from the left pane and clear the "Play and Exit" check box.
Experience the pleasure of two or more songs in a row.

It's necessary to perform a "Complete Uninstall" before re-installing to clear the configuration files and settings.

I've reinstalled the VLC and also checked the "Play and Exit"check box. But the problem still remains. Also my audacious is also not playing. Is there any other media player, which can play songs creating a playlist?

If you mean the XSPF style playlists, then there are plenty of players that can read and write to them.

Amarok
Exaile
Totem

You could try running VLC from a command line and check for errors after it closes. Same with audacious.
