Lets not forget the problem OP has. 319.17 does not support KMS, thus it will not solve the console resolution problem for OP.

I am wondering one more thing? Sounds like I will not be able to fix resolution in console.

What about decreasing the font size? Does Linux give me any options to do that? Basically it would still be crappy resolution, but small font. I really just want to be able to fit a more text on the screen because it is ridiculous right now.

Does ridiculous mean too big or too small?

In the terminal it's (on my Slackware distro) Edit> Preferences> appearance> Font

If for your os it should be in your "Settings".

I is way to large. I am talking about the console, not the gui terminal, so no menu options.

Code:
dpkg-reconfigure console-setup
Just found this, but 13 is the smallest font size. I would like to go to 10 maybe considering how large it still is, but it helped a little. I am still looking though.

Glad it helped a little.

I don't know what else you could try; sorry-

Just found out with the console setup command I posted above, if I select VGA, and size 8, it makes the boot up/down text and console text a decent size, even with my NVIDIA driver.

So if other others in this thread who have said they have this same problem still have the problem, you may want to try messing with 'dpkg-reconfigure console-setup'

Thanks.!

fwiw, ohsnap actually looks pretty cool at "wrong" resolution.
btw, you do have some control over screen resolution, at least my card would allow me to choose from standard resolutions like 640x480, 800x600 and maybe even 1024x768.
