viewing the display of another terminal

I had a general question and wasnít sure were to start looking for information. I was wondering if someone might be able to point me in the right direction.

If I log in and run a program, the output will display on the pseudo-terminal that I have logged into. Now let's say I need to check up on the status of this program, so I ssh in from another location. Is there a way to view the display of the terminal that the program is running on?

I am pretty new to Linux, but I do know how to read. I have no problem reading the documentation or howto's, but I do not know where to begin. Does anyone know what processes control the output? How does the virtual terminal work? What kind of topics do I need to search for? Thanks to anyone taking the time to read this and respond.

If you run screen, then start your program, you can connect to it from other terminals.

On the server:
$ screen
$ [your program]

On the client:
$ ssh server
$ screen -r

You will then see the program's output in the client's terminal.
