viewing text in foreign languages
hi.
if i want to edit/view text in foreign languages, how would i do it?
are there plugins for say, emacs (what bout vim?) such that i can open the files and see the right fonts?

In text mode editors you need to have language and font set correctly (in your shell). If you'd like to view files in different languages, UTF-8 on console would be the best choice.

great.
how would i go bout setting it up?
or how would i chk if it's already setup (i tried opening the files, but they dont seem to be rendering)
is it something i can set for the whole system, or do the apps i would be using have to be setup individually?
what im trying to do is translate something into a foreign language, so ...

I see you use Debian, so do: "dpkg-reconfigure locales".
You also may want to: "apt-get install localeconf"

hi Hko, thanks for replying.
i didn't have either of those packages. just installed them right now.
i only installed support for one language.
how would i go about editing these files in say, vim/emacs, and get the fonts rendered - that brings me to - what about the fonts?
really appreciate your help.
p.s: currently lookin at the emacs manual.

console-tools package may be also useful. The configuration file you may use is /etc/console-tools/config (you should have example lines included). You'd need also to change the value of LANG environmanetal variable.
