Video output blank. how to check video card?
Hi there.
I've a desktop environment with dual monitor attached to linux box (slackware 14.1 64bit, xorg, nvidia).
This morning I turned on my box and both the screens were blank.
No video output. No welcoming bios, no boot wall of text. :-/
I can ssh to the desktop and to me seems all work well, but the monitor stay blank.
I suspect strongly the graphic card is burned, but don't know if there is any check sw side I can do before to buy another one.
Any hints?
* From syslog/lsmod I see the nvidia modules are loaded.
* No video output from mobo, unfortunately.

Hi...
If this is a add-on card, try reseating it. If you can, check your PSU with a power supply tester.
Also, apart from the graphics, does it boot normally in every other way, including the short, single beep?
Regards...

Thanks for advices, but i don't know how check psu indeed. :-/
Yes, a part graphics, it boot normally and all goes smooth.
After a bit of tinkering, I found an old geforce 210 that help me to restart the graphic system - so I'm decided to buy a new video card with no doubts.

I bought a AMD/ATI Sapphire R9 280 (Tahiti PRO, Radeon HD 7950).
At the moment I tryed it with default linux radeon firmware (OpenGL software rasterizer) and with proprietary drivers and it works very well.
I still have to try the open source 3d drivers. :-/

Hi...
Glad to hear your new card is working fine but if the proprietary driver are working without any problems, I would stick with that, as the fglrx driver (proprietary,) I think, offers better functionality and quality overall than the open source driver.

I was wondering if exist a way to understand the graphic card is burned querying the os.
Example: I checked lspci but it showed a pretty right VGA entry also if the card was out.

Hi...
Perhaps one method is doing a stress test on the GPU with software such as this. I've not used this particular program so I can't vouch for it but there may be others.
Regards...
