Video not displaying in Media Player

I am running Fedora 26. I have a MP4 video file created on another machine. When I copy it to my machine, Media Player loads up, but does not play anything.

I can open the same file in kdenlive and see and hear everything. In kdenlive, I can create a new MP4 file, but again, Media Player will not show it.

I suspect that I may be missing something - but I don't know what.

Suggestions please.

I have checked what I have installed of gstreamer (by way of dnf list installed) and I find this

clearly gstreamer balks because it cannot decode h264.

looks like all the gstreamer plugins are there, but have you checked $PACKAGE_MANAGER search function?

could you simply try a different media player, preferably mpv?

Thanks ondoho, mpv worked for me.

I don't know what was wrong with the other one - but now I don't care!

i tried xplayer for a short while and got the vague impression that the project is not mature.
also it couldn't offer me anything that i would need in a media player; i question the point of having yet another one.

if you want a nice gooey frontend for mpv, try smplayer.
