vi won't save modified file.

When I got a black screen after reboot from a text install of Fedora 1, I used vi to edit XF86Config. I was able to insert the changes. I tried :wq and ZZ to save and exit, neither instruction worked. vi stays in insert mode.

Can this be fixed?

1) are you editing the file as root, if not then try as root

2) before saving are you pressing ESC and then :wq?
