very strange, ps related

Hey

has ANYONE seen this before, when typing ps?

duncan@plasma:~$ ps ax
{journal_start} {journal_start_R__ver_journal_start}
Warning: /boot/System.map does not match kernel data.
{journal_start} {journal_start_R__ver_journal_start}
Warning: /usr/src/linux/System.map does not match kernel data.

I have recompiled the kernel, and it has no modules..... all built in, yet i still get this message

I have no idea why?! any ideas?
Running kernel 2.4.20 (it has ran before without these errors, i have no idea what i've done this time round to cause em.. I recompiled, but to no avail)

Cheers,

Duncan

That's wierd. So you've recompiled a kernel and you haven't restarted using it yet? Or you're running a kernel that has booted off of a bad System.map? What's in /boot?
Did you do make-kpkg rather than make dep && make clean, etc...? Would that make a difference?

what does make kpkg do? is it debian specific? (im using deb so thats ok)

i compiled my kernel, copied the System.map from /usr/src/linux to /boot and the bzImage file, then i get that msg on ps.

Im going to try a complete make mr proper/recompile later on
