Question Very slow performance when extracting rar files on Kubuntu

IDK what is going on with my kubuntu 14.04 install. I'm running a Intel 3770K on a Asus P8Z77-V Motherboard w/ 32GB ram and Samsung 830 250GB SSD. If I have an archive (rar) that is 1GB, split into 15mb or 50mb chunks it may take 30-90 seconds to extract! My windows 7 machine running an 3 core AMD Athlon II x3 450 3.2Ghz, 8GB ram, old WD 500GB blue drive, it extracts in about 2-3 seconds.

This isn't just rar's, it is zip's, tar's, and gzip's as well.

I thought it might be all the other processes on my Linux system as I have lots of stuff running, but I tried on a fresh boot with only Dolphin running and I get the same results. I am using Ark and have installed PeaZip but it won't run for some reason (will have to look into this..).

I've read many other people encountering this as well and IDK what the deal is. I haven't seen any workable solutions. I have installed rar and unrar on the system, IDK if ark access this or if it uses some built in code to handle rar files.

Anyone know why this happens on Linux systems?

It's not Linux specific, it's your SSD drive and the way you have or haven't configured it. See if any firmware updates have been released since your last version too.
