Version upgrade in centos


Hi,
I guess this sounds funny but i want to do a version upgrade of my present centos system but i really dont know how to go about it without loosing my present configurations and settings. am currently running version 4.6 and i want to upgrade it to say 4.8 or 5.1

Backup, backup, backup. Then upgrade. Distro and docs should mimick Red Hat behaviour and should be available at http://www.centos.org

After backups, see here http://kbase.redhat.com/faq/docs/DOC-2531
Note the first line will update you to the latest 4.x (4.8 currently).
You cannot (should not) upgrade across major versions. In fact this is explicitly not supported by RH: http://www.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red...ted_Notes.html.
Of course, you can try, but I wouldn't ... BTW, latest 5.x is 5.4
