Version information in ELF binaries
 

Is there a convention for including version information, description, etc into the executable?

I found a bunch of info about the ELF format itself and obviously it can contain a section with a description text

Windows has a convention for this kind of info being stored in the resource of the executable.

None of them answer my original question. Within the ELF spec, what is the convention (if there is one) for storing version and description info for human consumption?
