Using Virtualbox to create a new custom distro ISO.

I was wondering if it's possible to customize a distro in Virtualbox and then create an ISO to replace your base system with it. My current system needs an upgrade and I would like to try some new things and maybe tweak them before I install them.

Some major Linux distributions will allow you to do this with specific software designed for that purpose whether the install is in VirtualBox or directly to hardware. Which Linux are you using?
