using resize_reiserfs

Hey

Has anyone used resize_reiserfs?

I need to reduce my /dev/hda3 partition by a couple of gigs. /dev/hda3 is the last partition on the disk. Does resize_reiserfs just leave you with unformated space the end?

I have heard horror stories about resizing Reiser. Has anyone had a good success with this program?

Any other ways to resize?

Lastly, is there a way I could back up my /dev/hda3 partition before doing this? I have a server which I could put all the files on, but that is maybe not the best way

Thanks for your suggestions.
Hamish
