Using Palm with Linux - syncing from PC to Palm

I'm not sure what forum is the best for this question, so I'm posting it here.

Anyway, I need to be able to hotsync *from* my PC *to* my Palm, in addition to going the other way around. I installed gnome pilot and jpilot in an effort to find something that worked. The help files on both are abysmal, btw. ;)

I like to write on my Palm and on my computer and keep the two synchronized. In Windows, this is really easy, as the program I use on my Palm, Docs to Go, has a Windows desktop and integrates (to an extent) with Word. In Linux, on the other hand, I have yet to figure out how to do this. I've tried using kpalmdoc to convert the files, to no avail.

If anyone has any suggestions for me, I'd really appreciate it. I'm using Mandrake 10.0 right now, and a Zire 71 with a USB cradle.

Jpilot etc are all GUI interfaces for the same CLI tool.

Try opening up a terminal and entering:

pilot-xfer -r ~/palm/files/directory

The -r switch stands for 'restore', and will write your computer files to the PDA.

Check the man page for more info.

Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately, it doesn't help me too much, as I already knew about the restore option. What I need is not "restore," but "write." As in installing a file that does not yet exist on my Palm *to* my Palm. In addition, I need a program that will convert between Word/OO.o format and the Palm format.

Either that or I need to get WINE installed and see if I can use Docs to Go from there.

PS. The man pages aren't terribly helpful. I'd checked them already (see my comment about the help files sucking ;)). I do appreciate your reply; I must not have been clear enough in my initial post.
