USERS command displays all accunst as root? Why?

Hi

After runing users command as root I am getting root root root root accounts, Why? I have 4 different users set up on linux Mandrake 9.1. Why I can not see what are my users on the system with this command? I can see the users in /etc/passwd file. That's it.

Thanks for you help.

the users command shows the users who are logged in, not the ones set up on your system. Do you by any chance log in as root from the start? That would explain why only root is logged in. Don't login as root. Instead change to root by su whenever necessary.

I'm not sure if there is a command. You get the list of all users in /etc/passwd. But this contains all sorts of users set up by the system. Usually, the ones that you see at the login screen are the normal users. And there's root. Don't login as root though. It's dangerous.

I have to otherwise i won't be able to manipulate/set CUPS or SAMBA in GUI. Geting back to my first question even when I change the ex. su administrator and as administrator i run the USERS command i still see 4 x user account as root.

root root root root
[sdfasdfhaslkdjhfalskd whatever]#

Thanks anyway.

By the way do you know how to enable everybody to print to win 2000 printer remot printer from Linux Mand 9.1 ? only user that I alowed to print can only print and manage the printer queue, but I want to give everybody access to print. Do I have to use the share level in SMB as shared? cause rigth now I have user?

Any idea?

thanks

No idea about the printer thing. Search in the forum and if you don't find anything, start another thread.

It's strange you should see root logged in 4 times. You are logged into KDE as a normal user, right? should show up at least once.
