user rights for harddrives, writing only in "My documents"?

First of all: Suse 9.3

I have a very general question:

The only folders I can change files in is the "my documents" section. can I change that somehow? I just changed from winXP and sometimes still need to transfer my work from one OS to the other. I can not even write on a floppy!

I tried to change the rights of the windows partitions (using konqueror, right click on the partition...) that dind't work. "The rights can not be changed on Windows/c" I think i need to do that using the console where I can change to root easily. and there is the problem: I don't know how to change rights using the console. so I hope that someone will help me with this obviuosly newbee-question.

You don't mention if this is a locally mounted drive/partition or a network mount, or if you are accessing this with a smb:// path in konqueror.

If this is and xp install then it will be formatted with NTFS. To write to this partition you will need to enable NTFS writing in the kernel, which means that you will need to recompile it. If you have any spare partition space on a drive, you could create a fat filesystem on it and use it as a sort of swap area to write to from linux. This could then be accessed from windows.

I am assuminng that this is a dual boot system.
