Use RAM as swap???

As I understand it, the reason for swap space is where you have more things wanting to use RAM than you have RAM, and the least-used stuff gets swapped to the hard drive.

There's this article on kerneltrap: How to Use RAM as Swap

What exactly is the difference between adding RAM as RAM, and adding RAM as swap??

I just don't get it..

I don't quite understand the article either. I don't see any advantage over just plugging in some RAM.

I don't get it either, but I'll have a read...

If you have 512mb RAM the only reason I can see for having 1Gb of swap is if you do a lot of memory intensive work - say graphics design. The guy set his sytem up wrong - he should have put in, say 256mb of swap.
