USB disk with multiple bootable linux images
 

Hi,

I want to create an external USB disk that contains multiple bootable linux images.
My purpose is this. If i'm on location i want to be able to pop in the usb disk, (change bios if needed), turn on computer, choose which linux dist I want to boot from (depending on what i want to use it for), boot the linux, enjoy the linux.
Secondary purpose is an easy way to install and test new distributions.

I've been using SuSE for some time now so I know my way around my system. But I'm not sure on how to set this up.

I have:
- Bought the USB disk :)
- Removed the partition
- Created 3 primary ReiserFS partition and one FAT16 partition for data
- Downloaded some linux images that I like (geekbox, live security distribution, ...)

and here i'm a bit stuck.

1. Howto get those images on the USB device
All F.A.Q.'s explain on how to burn the images to CD but this is not what I want.
I assume I have to use dd for this?

2. Howto create a multi-boot interface
I assume I will have to use a bootmanager. Maybe grub but well.. grub being grub i have never gotten the hang of it.
I fear that if I get messing with grub I will mess up my grub-installation for my existing system .

3. Howto do all this without messing up my normal system and losing my sanity.

Any help would be appreciated.

I tried copying the geexbox image to the first partition with dd (cfr. the sticky thread about dd)
However, when I try to boot from the disk it is not bootable.
