Urgent: "su" Not Working

I can't seem to get $su to work. It just returns:
Code:
su: cannot set groups: Operation not permitted
I really need to get this fixed, or I will have to login as root whenever I need to do anything important.

I believe that it may have something to do with when I tried to change the user information. A box came up saying "Su returned an error".

Con someone help me with this urgent problem?
