Urgent

Hello:

I am called Patricia Pla and am employed at the department of physical chemistry of the University of Valencia (Spain).

I have installed Ubuntu Server 6.06.2 LTS and need to change the installed, English language to Spanish. . Fot it I have used localdef, local.gen and dpkg-reconfigure locales and have not obtained that the days of the week returned for the instruction date back go out in Spanish.

Later I show the steps that I have followed and the variables that I have at this moment. For it I have used es_ES.ISO-8859-15, before I proved it with es_ES.ISO-8859-1 and did not obtain anything.

Before that I did nothing I sweat localedef-i es_ES language-env user - it is The libraries language-pack-es language-pack-en and language-packaging they are installed.

1. locale-gen es_ES.ISO-8859.-15

2. in /etc/environment I have
3.
LANG=es_ES@euro
LANGUAGE=es_ES@euro
LC_TYPE=es_ES@euro

/etc/profile

LANG=es_ES@euro
Export LANG

4. /var/lib/locales/support.d/local

es_ES-ISO-8859-15@euro ISO-8859-15
es_ES.ISO-8859-15 ISO-8859-15
en_US.UTF.8 UTF-8

Also I have proved t with es_ES.ISO-8859-1 ISO- 8859-1

/var/lib/locales/support.d/es

I have added:

es_ES ISO-8859-1 ISO-8859-1
es_ES ISO-8859-15 ISO-8859-15
es_ES.ISO-8859-15@euro ISO-8859-15@euro

After all that I have done locale-gene and to report of more locales it appears

es_ES ISO-8859-1 ISO-8859-1 up-to-date
es_ES ISO-8859-15 ISO-8859-15 up-to-date
es_ES.ISO-8859-15@euro ISO-8859-15@euro up-to-date

Since they were not going out the dates in Spanish I put dpkg-reconfigure locales and the same thing went out and neither I was successful.

I was searching in forums and in one I found that the file locale.alias in/usr/X11R6 // lib/X11/locale/locale.alias where they appear:

es_ES.ISO-8859-15 es_ES.ISO-885915
es_ES.ISO.8859-15@euro es_ES.ISO-885915
es_ES@euro es_ES.ISO-885915

Also I looked in /usr/ share/ locales I did a ls and found

es_ES@euro
es_ES

Once done all that I did a locale and he returned locales defined and a mistake

Locale set LC_ALL to defualt locale:No existe el fichero o directorio

LANG=es_ES@euro
LANGUAGE=es_ES@euro:es:en_US:en
...
....

LC_ALL=

To emphasize that LANGUAGE was defined of the following way es_ES:es:en_US_en and did not give result either, Also I tried with the locales es_ES.ISO-8859-1 and es_ES.ISO-8859-15 with the same result

To emphasize also that the this hour in format Europe / Madrid but the names continue in English.

Already not since it is possible to solve the change of language of the days of the date.

Sorry but my English is a bit wrong
Thank you very much.

please do not use words like urgent. it is not urgent for us, and you can not demand priority attention from a voluntary community. You should instead be using a useful title that actually gives information about your issue.

Something about changing "locales" here (#3)
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...locale-188628/
I assume that 'locales-es' (and 'locales') is installed.
('dpkg --get-selections > packages.txt' or 'dpkg --get-selections | grep locale')

¡Pena buena! La lengua materna de esta persona es obviamente española. ¿Cómo es él o ella supuso saber qué palabras son utilizadas típicamente por un anglohablante nativo?

Not everybody around here speaks English every day, pal... Now, let's see if "me 'n Babelfish" can give this person an answer...

Obviously, this is generally an English-language forum. I know. Hey, this is a big planet... and a lot of this stuff is a new social experience.

es_ES.ISO-8859-15 (or even es_ES.ISO-8859-1) is a correct LC_ALL value for spanish. But below, you use es_ES@euro, which is not.

Besides that, I don't know which guide did you follow and I don't know much about ubuntu either (it's not the distro I'd use to act as a server...).

As a preliminar test, you can try this:

1.- open a terminal
2.- set LC_ALL manually, like this

Code:
LC_ALL=es_ES.ISO-8859-15
3.- now use locale to check if it has been set correctly, this is an example from my desktop machine:

Code:
$ locale
LANG=es_ES.utf8
LC_CTYPE="es_ES.utf8"
LC_NUMERIC="es_ES.utf8"
LC_TIME="es_ES.utf8"
LC_COLLATE="es_ES.utf8"
LC_MONETARY="es_ES.utf8"
LC_MESSAGES="es_ES.utf8"
LC_PAPER="es_ES.utf8"
LC_NAME="es_ES.utf8"
LC_ADDRESS="es_ES.utf8"
LC_TELEPHONE="es_ES.utf8"
LC_MEASUREMENT="es_ES.utf8"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="es_ES.utf8"
LC_ALL=es_ES.utf8
As you see, I use es_ES.utf8, which I highly suggest you to do. Unicode is the future and you are limiting yourself by using any other thing. But if you are using the ISO-8859-15 set, you should see that instead of .utf8.

If all of that went ok, then you need to redo your configuration using those variables with those same values. I can't help with the concrete files because I know nothing about ubuntu. Sorry.

If you have problems with the English language feel free to mail me or something, I am from Córdoba so I think I can speak spanish decently :P

Cheers.
