updating from gnome 2.4 to gnome 2.8


i have gnome 2.4 and kde 3.2 running as part of my distribution SUSE 9.1 professional.
I want to update my gnome 2.4 to 2.8 which i beleive is the latest.can someone tell me how to go abt thatttt?
ps:-i am behind a firewall,the proxy server requires authenication

thnx for ne help

ehh..I think it's gnome 2.6 that's the latest, not 2.8 yet at least, that's what gnome.org says

fine,but thats not my question,,how to upgrade from 2.4 to the latest version?

If you really want latest version of Gnome (which is 2.6.X) I recommened you to use apt-get. At least my little brother upgraded KDE to latest version with it and he has SuSE 9.1. So I _think_ latest Gnome is available also.
