up2date kernel skip?

Greetings,

Why does up2date skip the kernel update by default? Are there problems with updating the kernel?

Why does up2date skip the kernel update by default?
Some stuff just shouldn't be updated automagically, because doing so has the potential to break things beyond easy repair.
The kernel and glibc are the two best examples.
