Up Broadcast Running Multicast

hey, i just compiled the new 2.4.22 kernel for my system and installed it with apt-get.

I am running Debian 3, now.

However, the problem is when i check my ethernet status with ifconfig

for eth0: instead of getting an ip address , i get UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST

for lo, everything is fine, of course 127.0.0.1.

but does anyone have any suggestions for eth0?

Check if all necessary modules are loaded and initialized properly, then
check if you can bring the interface up manually?
