unstable mapping between text virtual terminals and videocards

I have 2 videocards for 2 seats, and I often use text virtual terminals (TVT) for administrative tasks. I want TVTs to be on the seat where I seat. I mapped all TVTs to "/dev/fb0" by the kernel parameter "fbcon=map:0". But the mapping between "/dev/fb$X" files and videocards is unstable, so the mapping between TVTs and videocards remains unstable. I can assign stable symbolic links to videocards by UDev rules, but I don't see how to communicate those symbolic links to the driver "fbcon". "fbcon" accepts numbers only.

I hope that, in the future, the Xorg server will be replaced with something more secure, and it will be safe to do everything in GUI. What can I do now?

Hello, beroal...

I consider myself a Pnewbie [Post-newbie; silent "n"; copyright waived] but YOU are already doing stuff a little beyond my capability. (I do, however, get the concept.) I too have had difficulty with graphics set up.

To try to help you out I searched for some quick info.

Here is a link...

http://unix.stackexchange.com/questi...put-text-to-it

...to a webpage with the title...

"How to use /dev/fb0 as a console from userspace, or output text to it"

It appears to have some info related to your effort, and seems to be pretty descriptive a bit beyond that.

<In my case much was solved getting the right driver, then graphics/drivers working properly via xorg.conf. In xorg.conf you can also manage the setup for 2 graphics cards - although I have never done that. However in your case I don't know if that is an area you need to delve into first.>

(Hope this helps, otherwise it shouldn't be too long before someone jumps in with precise details for you.)

Regards,
aka boombaby
