Unreal Tournament
 

i installed Unreal Tournament (i have the windows version but the LokiGames installer put it in linux) and when i try to run it, it gives me a message saying saying that it can't find a file called "entry"

this might have to do with when i installed it i told it not to install the data files(i figured it would take them off of the CD when the game was played) because when i told it to put the data files in, it asked for a secend CD but i only got the one when i bought it.....any help would be greatly appreciated....thanks,

What version did you install (i.e. original UT, GOTY UT) and what version of the installer did you use (original or GOTY)?

Perhaps you're using the wrong installer?

i used the GOTY installer because i have the GOTY disc.....it doesn't make sense because the windows installer doesn't need two discs....i only have one....

Well not sure if this helps or not, but the file it's looking for is a map file. Looks like you or the installer missed this file.goto the maps folder on the cd and copy the Entry.unr file to the maps folder on the drive and all should be good to go.

i tried that and it still gives me the message....i just want to know why it wants a seconds disc i only got one when i bought it....

I've read that you can buy the 'linux version' which is basically a windows retail edition that includes a second disk with the linux stuff on it. Has a nice logo on the box and all aparently. It's possible that the installer you have is chasing somthing from that disc. Though I can't say too much on the matter, I'm still dual booting ;)

Okay, this is fresh in my mind from last night - just one less reason to boot into Windows. :p

The entry is the first map that UT tries to load - I imagine it's the one where you float around a town and the voiceover tells you about the game of UT.

Even if you have it, you might need to unzip it. There is a good FAQ on lokigames new site. This FAQ has loads about other games, but also about UT - it will have a script that you can copy and paste and then run - this will uncompress all the map files, if you install it correctly. Don't give up - you're not far from getting it to work.

As for 2 disks - I got 2 - one with game and one with UT extras (all GTOY editions). Make sure you get the right installer for your CD.

You won't have to buy the Linux version. This makes me thinkI should get Return to Castle Wolfenstein - if UT can run nicely - and it does -then so can Wolfy.

I had the same problem u need to get the shell script that uses ucc to decompress all the maps i got it from the loki UT news group

I tried to make convert.sh file rut it in /usr/local/games/ut (as my installation directory) then ran it and it started to show error massages one after another

I had this same problem... but - I figured it out. To get it to work, you need to run that shell as root - otherwise you probably can't write to the $installdir/maps directory. That's it. So easy...

A few questions here. I recently purchased GOTY with the 2 cds one supposedly has linux binarys on it. Well hwo the heck do u install this? I see nothing on either cd that are related to linux. Thanx I had searched the ur website but it just offers the demo download as far as I could find. i only bought it to play on linux, I have just started my game collection for linux, ans they all rock.

Ok, to get UT working (and unreal 1 too, if you want)
go to lokigames' site. or google "loki unreal tournament linux," if you find that easier.
On Loki's site, http://www.lokigames.com/products/ut/, check the system requirements, and go to the downloads.
1. Read the readme's, and download the script appropriate to the game you have. GOTY edition is 436, I know that because it worked for me.
2. mount the UT cd, switch to root, and run the install script. easy
Try to run UT (not as root), after the install if it doesn't work (entry loading errors), go to 3-
3. go to http://icculus.org/lgfaq/, and search for "usr/local/games/ut/Maps/Entry.unr", this will take you to a paragraph describing what you need to do. Be sure to run the script they give you as root, or it won't work.

BTW - UT in linux is beautiful. make sure, though, that you have GL and your graphic's card's driver installed, or it won't be that nice.
