Unicode(UTF8) support in linux shell

Hi,
I am trying to make a small distro of mine which has linux kernel+busybox+filesystem+ncurses based application.

I would like to know that whether there is support for unicode in ash shell. How do i display CJK(Chinese, Japanese, Korean) characters.
What do i have to add to kernel to make it understand unicode or do i have to.
What fonts to select in kernel.

All in all how do i display unicode characters in my application which is on the shell as it is ncurces based.

Thank You.
