unicode bengali in different web browser

plz look at the site which uses unicode font.
Now, the rendering is very different in firefox(4) and epiphany. what i first thought due to gecko and webkit. But, later I found google chrome
is also rendering it correctly, as claimed by the website.
I use fedora 14 with lohit font to render bengali fonts.
Hence, I want to know, what makes the rendering different in the browser? Unicode fonts are supposed to be browser independent...right?
