Undefined video modes message at startup

Im running mandrake 9.1 on a desktop pc. Everything is fine. I dont have any problems with X windows. But everytime I start the computer I see this message:

Bios Data Check Successful
You passed an undefined mode number

Press <return> to see video modes available, <space> to continue or wait 30 seconds.

If I wait 30 seconds, the system goes on to boot as normal. But 30 seconds is a long time to wait on top of the time linux takes to boot already.

How can I fix this problem so I dont keep getting this message??

Thanks in advance

in your /etc/lilo.conf file there will be a line that says "vga=monkey" or similar (ok, not *that* similar...), and monkey is not a mode number.... you could remove that line, or alternatively change it to a valid framebuffer modeline e.g "vga=0x317" for 800x600 16million color frambuffer i think. if you want to settle for a certain resolution, check the vesa framebuffer howto for real mode numbers

and of course run "lilo" as root after making any changes to the file.
