Exclamation unable to write to var "saying full" but not


I'm am having trouble satrting apple talk and when i che /var/log/messages it says atalk unable to open /var/lock/papd so i try manually to touch a file in lock, iget a message that there is no space left on device, I do a df /var is at 15%.
In watching the /var/log/messages file I notice that gdm keeps trying to restart and stating ... unable to get FIFO... and messsages keeps getting bigger so somthing can write to var.
any idea on what to check???

I figured it out

I checked the I-nodes (df -i) and they where way out of line. There were 1000 of 0 length files in the mailman dir. (duh)
