unable to play audio files
Using redhat 9.0, prerecorded audio cd's do not show any files on them when trying to browse them either in terminal or graphic file browsing, so of course I can't play them either
This doesn't occur with any other type of cd, or mp3's.
Any ideas?

did you mount the CD? mount /dev/[cd-rom device name]
try mounting it and then checking.
if this does not help..post more details of your problem and we can try to set it out.

Yes, the CDROM is mounted and will read all type of media except pre-recorded audio cd's. It isn't a cdrom hardware failure problem either, as when I boot to Windblows the drive works fine.
Thanks!

well how do u mean other CD's? does it read DVD's or data CD's?
u sure you r mounting the right device?also you might want to check up in your system administration tool(i dont know much about Red Hat) if you have actually activated your CD-rom.
you could also try a software to play CD's and see if that is able to read it.
i am sorry i cannot give ne more ideas than this.

Audio CD's do not have a filesystem and therefore can not be mounted. Just start a CD player application and select play. Verify the player configuration is using the desired CD drive device.
Also make sure the volume control for the drive is not muted nor turned to min setting. If your not using the latest xmms player (i.e. digital audio extraction) then you will need an audio cable between the drive and the sound card.

I'm using XMMS, but it doesn't detect any tracks on the audio CD. I read in the forums about a plugin for XMMS cdread that sounds similar to this problem, I'll try that when I get home.
Thank you
