unable to login because no login prompt

I cannot find the cause of this problem.

My system will boot up correctly but after switching therunlevel and after running all scripts I get no login prompt.

I did not touch inittab.

Any idea?

I'll try with kernel param init=/bin/bash and run agetty tty1 9600
maybe this will return an error message with which I can work with.
