unable to boot

hi,

I am unable to boot from my red hat machine. (red hat 8.0). When i start the machine it hags showing
partition checking
hda:

I also tried with cdrom to go in rescue mod but it remains at same stage.
Secondly i tried it by attaching it to second system as secondary so that i can copy the data by mounting the hard disk on that system but it sremains on same stage. But when i remove this hard disk that system is booting properly.
Let me know what to do. I have some importane that on that hard disk.

thanks in advance.

I will ask the obvious questions first.
Are you setting the hard drive jumpers correctly as you move it about?
Unless there is file corruption or hard drive failure you should be able to copy files from the hard drive installed as a secondary.

You mean you have connected this disk on the other system as a secondary master. Hope there are no CDROM drives that are configured as secondary master.
