Unable to access my Linux+Samba from MS-Win

Hi.

I'm trying to access my Linux+Samba box from MS-Windows 2000.

/etc/samba/smb.conf (@Linux - 192.168.2.101):
---------------------------------------------
[global]
workgroup = Work_group
netbios name = PC01
server string = Samba Server at PC01
log file = /var/log/samba/log.smbd
max log size = 50
socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_RCVBUF=8192 SO_SNDBUF=8192
printcap name = /etc/printcap
dns proxy = No
hosts allow = 192.168.2.

[printers]
comment = All Printers
path = /var/spool/samba
printable = Yes
browseable = No

[shared]
comment = Shared
path = /home/john/shared
read only = No
guest ok = Yes
-------------------------------------------------

When trying to access from MS-Windows 2000 (192.168.2.103), I see 'PC01' computer,
but when I click it, I'm requested to type user+passwd, and I'm not able to
login (I tried with admin and user passwords)

Any suggestion?

It looks like your missing the setting that tells Samba how it should authenticate users.

If I recall I think this should work, however I don't remember all the Samba Configuration Directives off the top of my head

Try adding :
Code:
guest account = nobody
security = user
Under the [Global] Section.

you need to do this:
Code:
smbpasswd -a user
for all users that are to be allowed access for samba file shares, obviously change user for the username, then you'll be prompted to set a password, this doesn't necesarily have to be the unix password

To create a working Guest share, you probably need to add this line to your [global] section:

map to guest = Bad User

Otherwise, samba will alway try use the current credentials used by your Windows session.

This line in your [Shared] section is useful if you want to ensure that you always write to it as the guest:

guest only = Yes
