unable to access certain websites

Hello Members:

My FC2 machine is behind the nat. I can browse the internet fine, but I can't login to yahoo or hotmail or access any other ftp server. Is the problem on the server side or with some configuration on my machine. I browsed google with no luck. I appreciate your feedback.

Regards;

are u sure that you are using nat and have allowed all ports ?

i suspect that port 443 is blocked as this is required for https which is required for yahoo to login

if u are facing problem with some http sites instead of only https then there might be a problem with your DNS server also

why don't u try running ur own caching name serever

have a look at /etc/named.conf

there are a few options of setting up a caching only name server
by default u need not change anything
do not use any forwarder there

then put the ipaddress 127.0.0.1 in ur /etc/resolv.conf and then try using the internet

also the bind service should be running

service named restart
or
service bind restart

i added 127.0.0.1 to /etc/resolv.conf and still can't login to yahoo.

I had " bind: unrecognized service" when i tried "service bind restart"

any more suggestions?

then u need to install bind or caching-nameserver package whichever is the package required

in FC2 u can have a look at add-remove programs and then install the DNS server packages
