UI + log files

I've been wondering how you display log files on the desktop without a window. I've read a couple of posts saying that it's eterm with everything stripped off, etc. Is this true? The author also said there's probably an easier way. I'd just like to get confirmation on that since I've just started using eterm... anyways, thanks in advance.

Have you tried running it as a background:

tail -f /var/log/mesages -root &

That won't work with some DEs.
