Ubuntu install affecting WinXp return from standby?
I have a dual booted laptop with WinXp and Ubuntu with Grub as my boot loader. Ever since I've installed Ubuntu, I've been having a long wait time anytime I have to enter my windows password to return to windows.
ie, when the screen turns off and I move the mouse or press a key, I get the "press ctrl+alt+del" to log back it. It does not matter if it was just screensaver, standby, or hibernate, it takes over a minute to get back into WinXp. A friend suggested something about how Ubuntu changes the system time and WinXp may be confused about the time??? I don't know, any suggestions? Thanks! |
Certainly in the case of just a screensaver (and I would think also suspend to ram) there is no way (that I can imagine!) that Ubuntu could be doing anything to the time since Ubuntu is not active during the period in question. The only thing I can imagine is the different MBR (GRUB) or the additional partition(s) is somehow affecting things. But even that seems unlikely. Have you tried googling for reports of similar problems?

Yes, I have tried googling for this topic. It's kind of a difficult search. to say the least, I have not found anything that applies. Thanks though for the advice.
