Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy) Not Booting after clean install. NTLDR is missing.
i've just done a clean install of ubuntu 8.04 (hardy),and it doesn't seem to be booting. grub doesn't even load. It just says: "NTLDR is missing press ctrl+alt+delete to restart. I have a HP VECTRA VL400DT computer and a SEAGATE ST38422A harddrive. :(

Most probably you chose not to install grub during install and you had Windows installed previously, or you installed grub on the wrong partition/hard drive.
NTLDR is related to Windows' boot loader.
You should reinstall grub on the right hard drive on the mbr.

Boot into a live session with the Ubuntu CD and get to a prompt and have grub reinstall itself. You need to know the root or /boot partition of the Ubuntu installation which can be found with command: sudo fdisk -l. If you determined it to be /dev/sda2 (second partition), then you start a grub session in the terminal and tell grub where root is, where to install itself (in MBR of first drive), with these commands (grub counts from 0):

sudo grub
root (hd0,1)
setup (hd0)

You may also have installed grub in the Windows partition (/dev/sda1) and need to repair Windows boot loader with Windows installation disk first, before fixing grub.
