Ubuntu 4.10 GNOME and X installation?
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to exactly install X with GNOME on a custom installation of Ubuntu 4.1. I found a howto, but it is with 'apt-get' and as far as I know apt-get downloads files from the internet, right? But since I don't have a high-speed connection at all, I want to install the software after having made a custom install and from the Ubuntu 4.10 install disk. |
Wrong. Apt-get can be configured (and with Ubuntu is configured by default) to search for packages on the installation CD first, and then look up the Internet.
So if you have a custom install of Ubuntu and no Internet access you can still install Gnome manually. |
Hey thanks! That cleared things up a bit :)
