u32 typedef: kernel source

in include/linux/sched.h, for example, there is a line...

Code:
u32 self_exec_id
i take that u32 is an unsigned int of 32 bit width - good. where does u32 get defined as such, though? can't find it anywhere.

Usually, its in include/asm/types.h (where asm is symlinked to suit your particular arch).
