Two Linux Distros - Sharing FF and T-Bird mail.

Hi folks...

I've searched various forums and Google and haven't found anything concerning this little thing I'd like to do.

I'm duel booting Xubuntu and Dreamlinux. Both using Firefox and Thunderbird.

My setup looks like this:

Code:
sda1 - / - Xubu
sda2 - extended
sda5 - /home - Xubu
sda6 - / - DL
sda7 - /home - DL
sda8 - /common - shared by Xubu and DL
sda9 - /linux-swap - shared
What I'd like to do is get FF "bookmarks" and Thunderbird "email" to be usable by both systems. Since I can only run one distro at a time I thought that if I moved (from Xubu) ~/.mozilla and ~/.thunderbird and /.mozilla-thunderbird (why there are the two of them, for T-Bird, I don't know.) to sda8 - /common, I could have them use the configuration from there.

Unfortunately I have no idea as to how to "point" each program in either distro to read from sda8 - /common and not from their respective ~/home directory.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and have a nice day.

just add a symlink... "ln -s /common/firefox ~/.firefox". Personally though I wouldn't bother - keep your email on a decent imap server, and use a bookmark syncing tool, e.g. google bookmarks to also hold bookmarks outside of the app. I use the GMarks extension to directly put these back on my FX menu.

I'll check out this "symlink" thing, never heard of that.

As to keeping stuff on a server on the net, no thank you, I prefer my stuff right her with me.

OH? OK, I didn't realize, I'll check that too.

But I've read someplace in FF Bug Repots that for FF 3 it's not possible.

I use FF3

As per Chris's note, foxmarks is net based, but are your bookmarks that sensitive?

Well so much for Foxmarks, didn't know it kept the stuff on the net.

And no, I don't have anything that sensitive in my bookmarks, it's a matter of personal choice for reasons best not got into here.

I have other programs I want to share between the distros as well, but not everything. I thought I'd start with the BIG TWO!

Have a nice day.
Bruce
