turning off computer

My sys is 1.2g hz, 512m ram 2 hd's MDK 10.1/W98

When I turn off my computer I press 'Esc' to watch it.
It's going to fast to read then it goes so fast the lines of type are blured.
It's in a loop and never quits.
I have to push 'Restart' the turn it off.

Is there a file some where I can look at to see what is going on?

If you have a system loger, sort through the bottom of /var/log/messages. This might give some insight into what is going on.

Changing to 'su' and entering '$poweroff' has worked thus far.
I've turned the computer off twice now with no problems.
I'll see what happens later today.

Thanks for the help guys.

BBB!
Long time no heard of you!

What is that new redicule of yours again:
"Got Crap?
Crashing and burning with Air Crapware,
"your best Airline" according to SlackerLX :P"

I also see that you were not utterly successfull with Slackware. Otherwise the writing would say different things....

Hehe, actually Slackware is the least crappy linux distro ive tried so far, a bit stupid sometimes but after some
tweaking and editing its great and Swaret works fine.
Ive been a bit busy lately and soon my christmas vacations is over .

And btw poweroff didn't work but i think that is because i selected a bare kernel.
But how cares, i always loved the "You can now turn of the computer" text .

"Slackware Linux is not your ordinary Linux distribution. For starters, it rarely figures in news headlines, preferring to keep a low profile instead. Its developers have stubbornly resisted any attempts to make their users' lives easier: the distribution provides no graphical configuration utilities, it's package management does not resolve dependencies and its simple, text-mode installer has undergone very few changes in years. Yet, Slackare Linux remains one of the top 5 Linux distributions in use today. What is the reason for its tight hold on many users? Surely, in the absence of the convenient features found in other modern distributions, the only explanation is that Slackware holds supernatural powers - try it once and you will never be able to leave it again for any other distribution" - Distrowatch article

You must grow into it

Yes, but the stuff i want to do requires an advanced
understanding on how everything works, which i don't have.
